COLOURS OF DIWALI

Youth Art Prize 2024

This year at Nilgiri’s, we decided to celebrate Diwali a little differently! Calling all young artists under 16 who live, study and play anywhere in Greater Sydney! Put your school holidays to good use and win some fabulous vouchers for dining at Nilgiri’s or for buying more art supplies!

The art prizes are divided into two categories by age: Under 10 and 11-16. All artists are asked to respond to the theme, ‘Colours of Diwali’ with a drawing or a painting. A broad artistic interpretation of this theme is encouraged.

All artworks must be emailed to art(at)nilgiris(dot)com(dot)au by midnight Sunday, October 27, 2024. All email entries should include: a clearly labelled artwork file no larger than 5MB (with Artist Name and Age), Artist Name, Age and Name of the Artwork. The artworks should have been completed in 2024.

The prizes in the two categories are as follows:

UNDER 10 YEARS

Winner$200 voucher for dining at Nilgiri’s plus art vouchers

Commendation$100 voucher for dining at Nilgiri’s

11-16 YEARS

Winner$200 voucher for dining at Nilgiri’s plus art vouchers

Commendation$100 voucher for dining at Nilgiri’s

The artworks will be judged by a panel of three art field practitioners (details below) and the judges’ decisions are final.

Gauri Torgalkar is a visual artist of Indian origin based in Sydney who works on the land of the Wallumettagal people (Ryde). Her work reimagines the Australian landscape as altered through the lens of personal memory and is inspired by narratives, including Indian textiles, folklore, and miniature painting. Gauri is a long-time collaborator with Nilgiri’s, working on everything art and design-related.

Emily Sullivan is a curator and writer based on Cammeraygal land. She’s currently Assistant Curator, contemporary international art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. She loves it when the Saag Paneer appears on Nilgiri’s seasonal menu.

Em Hatton is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist based on Gadigal land in Sydney’s inner west. She works across the intersections of digital illustration, painting, graphic storytelling, screenprinting and environmental graphics.

The winners and the winning artworks will be shared in Nilgiri’s Diwali Newsletter on Nov 1, 2024. So share this information with your friends and neighbours and get colouring!
